Parts Magician is a web service that allows dealers to query other dealers for obscure or hard to get parts via an Internet application.
Recent changes in c9 make it very easy to both query for parts, while in C9 Point of Sale, and to advertise your inventory availability to other c9 users via Parts Magician.
Querying a Part
To query a part, in point of sale simply press the up arrow key to highlight the part. Press the F12 key to do a query.
If the part is in a franchise you have never pressed F12 on before, a window will pop up asking to you to confirm the correct parts magician category. Select the correct category. You can later change category via Utilities - Edit Franchise -> Advanced.
On selection of category, (or assuming category is already memorized) then system will display results of customers that have that part in stock.
From the presented list you can click on 'View Supplier' to view details on the dealer - their address and contact details.
Setting up your c9 to respond to requests
By default your C9 will not automatically respond to parts magician requests from other dealers. This is for security/privacy reasons; we at c9 did not want to automatically expose your stock without your consent.
To configure responses, you need to goto the computer that is running c9 Messenger. Right click on messenger in system tray in bottom right of your computer screen and click on Restore.
If you noticed alot of 'red' (PM) entries, these are parts magician requests from other dealers which your c9 is not configured to automatically respond to yet. Click on settings.
Then click on Add Button in franchises, to map franchises to parts magician categories.
In settings there are also options which allow you to control exactly how information is presented back to other dealers. Two key settings are:
- Do not send our available quantities - The system will not broadcast how much you have in stock; and will only indicate that you carry the part
- Do not send pricing information - The system will not advise on current retail price for the item in question. Price sent back to user will be blank
