Release 4.164 March 22, 2011 barney

This version needs to modify the database. On upgrade it will ask you to log out of all terminals. Note that this upgrade may take longer than other upgrades; possibly several minutes as it needs to apply alot of changes..

IMPORTANT NOTE: This version of c9 now uses GST rate tracked against stock and master file items as opposed to the global tax rate. It also tracks on floor units whether or not to sell GST exempt. Make sure you maintain these values correctly on managing stock and importing master files. The upgrade will force reset all values to 10%

  • Added code to deal with Briggs & Stratton .xls price files and fact that parts are not on the first xls worksheet.
  • Added ability to track GST exempt line items on spares, workshop and units. Mainly for handling medical aids, such as mobility carts. Spares items and unit items can now be GST exempt.
  • Floor units can now be set as GST exempt or inclusive, so on sale they will default to given setting. (The setting can still be changed in POS)
  • Added spares inventory checkpointing + report to show quantity on hand at 1st of any given historical month.  The implementation is not retrospective.  Only from moment of upgrade with historical inventory data be available.
  • Added spares inventory journalling, to accurately track arbitrary changes to spares stocking, i.e.
    • Cancelled jobs
    • Stock takes
    • Manual F6 manipulation of stock
  • Miner - report on customers who have purchased spares parts of type X within last Y months
  • Accounts - in email statements allow setting of email text body. i.e. 'Dear {name}. See attached statement of account. We have specials on this month, blah blah blah.  Regards'
  • Modify account - disallow modification of account limits unless a clerk key with exceed permission is provided
  • Spares - allow setup of 'default' franchise. Bugfix with allowing adding parts where franchise is not set
  • Improved UI on credit warning screen; with enter key behaviour and made arrow keys useful
  • Jobs - colour code line items based on status of job
  • Bugfix with moving parts. If all parts could successfully move it would print an empty report and say no parts moved.
  • Bugfix - display unit sale details will not display invoice deposit correctly
Release 4.163 March 16, 2011 barney

This version needs to modify the database. On upgrade it will ask you to log out of all terminals.

  • Import parts from YPIC/Honda Parts etc.  Cope with Windows 7 environments with UAC in effect where export files are written into Win7 VirtualStore directory
  • Increased maximum size of email address from 40 characters to 64 characters.
  • Accounts now have a second 'account' email. On emailing statements, this is used instead of normal email address if set.
  • Accounts now have a second billing/shipping address. If it is set, and set as a 'postal/billing' address then when printing statements this second address is printed on the statement instead of the primary address.
  • Accounts now have flag to enable/disable bulk sending of SMS/email.  Bulk sending SMS/Email in Miner is simplified. In miner, in customer make sure radio button: Enable Bulk sms/email is set.  Then click on unsorted mail merge. The rest should be self explanatory
  • Accounts now have a GST exempt flag for flagging overseas customers for example.  In spares point of sale, if there is a mismatch between selected account's exempt flag and F9-exempt status of the invoice, a message question will pop up allowing the user to switch
  • Accounts - new setup option which always suggests account codes with trailing two digits. i.e. JOHN Smith is SMIJ00, SMIJ01, SMIJ02 ... SMIJ10, SMIJ11 ... SMIJ99

Spares Ordering March 11, 2011 barney

When a part is sold via c9 point of sale, the part sold to the customer can be either:

  • In stock – on the shelves in the dealerships premises - as such the part is sold to the customer immediately.
  • Not in stock and as such the dealership will need to place an order with their supplier to source the part on customer's behalf.

For parts that are ordered there are multiple things that the system operator needs to be aware of when using the c9 DMS.

C8 Systems has been designed to maximise user productivity by focusing on making it as simple and fast as possible to perform operations such as selling parts.

With advent of graphical operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, the computer mouse has become the primary mechanism which people use to nagivate a computer program.

A mouse is good for 'discovering' how software works – you can click around and sort of figure things out most of the time.

A mouse is no good though for repetitive operations that you perform over and over again. Beyond RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) the key problem with a mouse is that using a mouse is significantly slower. For example, a user familiar with C9 and keyboard shortcuts can sell a single part in less than 5 seconds, where a mouse oriented DMS can take substantially longer than this.

It has come to our attention that there is a potential problem in C9's database that may cause data loss or corruption on a power failure. In past 9 months we have had 4 instances of data corruption, 2, in the past week, are confirmed to be related to power failures. One recently required the dealer to completely rebuild and restore from backups.

This page contains important information on how to configure your c9 to be more resilient against such failures. It is strongly recommended that you read and follow the instructions on this page at the earliest opportunity to minimise risk of loss/corruption of data.
